 The continent of North America is located in the Northern Hemisphere.  It falls entirely in the Western Hemisphere.  The North America continent is bounded by the Arctic Ocean in the north, the Northern Dark Ocean in the east, the Caribbean Sea in the southeast, and the North Pacific Ocean in the west.  The Panama Canal connects it to South America and the Bering Strait separates it from the continent of Asia.
 North America is the third largest in the world after Asia and Africa in terms of continent area and by population, it is the fourth largest continent after Asia, Africa and Europe.  North America was named after a daring traveler named Amerigo Vespucci, an Italian explorer.
